Visiting Distinguished Chair in the Arts and Humanities

The Imagine Fund seeks proposals from individuals, groups, departments and centers on Twin Cities, Morris and Duluth campuses to identify candidates of high distinction in the areas of the Arts, Design and Humanities for the new Visiting Distinguished Chair in the Arts, Humanities or Design.

This chair will attract a world-class scholar or scholars to spend up to one academic year at Twin Cities, Morris or Duluth campuses. This position will be a catalyst with the goal of stimulating wide-ranging discussion on the arts and humanities across the University. The nature of the appointment will be flexible. For the Twin Cities campus, visiting chairs will be housed in the Institute for Advanced Study where they will be asked to conduct some of their activities and encouraged to engage the interdisciplinary community at the IAS. For Morris or Duluth campuses, location of office and community base of visiting chairs should be specified in the nomination proposal.

We encourage nominations!

Nominations in the form of a simple one-page (4,000 character) summary of the achievements of the potential Visiting Scholar and their potential contributions to University of Minnesota and community culture should submitted through our online form (login required). Proposals should include a clear statement of potential impact and activities the Chair might conduct on campus or campuses, as well as suggestions as to how the Chair might engage the larger public. Nominations are encouraged to engage arts, humanities, and design at the University system-wide.

The next nomination deadline is Monday, March 12, 2012. Please feel free to contact us through our contact form should you have any additional questions. A selection committee will begin reviewing nominations in mid-March. Nominators need not contact nominees at this point.
